RE: Are you a feminist?
Feminism was created by the western world in response to the Biblical teachings which oppressed women (according to classical feminists). Out of this arised two types of feminists, one who wanted equal rights through the church by arguing from the scripture others more politically so.
I'm not a feminist. I believe men and women are different. and giving them the same rights could deprive women of certain priviliges. Today we don't see the equality many of you profess to want but that does not mean it's a bad thing. |

I believe women should have the same choices men have, and I believe the choices of women should be respected and honored, not put down. I believe that feminists are NOT only women who work and juggle that along with home life, but women who choose to devote themselves to their home life (house + babies) can be feminists too, I feel that choice isn't always respected by society, including by other women. ~Y0u BeL0nG S0MeWheRe Y0u FeeL FRee~ |

RE: Are you a feminist?
I believe women should have equal rights, but at the same time I think it should be taken into consideration that many women don't require equal rights to men...because they take time off from work to raise children. In my opinion, raising a child is just as important as holding an paid position in a company... but it must be noted that it'd be very difficult to expect a company to give women equal rights to men if they want to leave for a year every 2-3 years for a decade or so to be raising children. :\

RE: Are you a feminist?
It's an interesting question, because whenever anybody asks it either you get an extreme man-hating response, or somebody bringing up images of crazy bra-burning hairy women...
Thankfully I havent seen either extreme on here But what nobody ever brings up when they bring up feminism, is the idea of solidarity among women, which I think is the most important part of it. We are "equal" to men, in that we're not inferior - but we work differently. The world constantly teaches us to compete with one another rather than help eachother. Women are taught that they're "over-emotional" rather than complex, and that the most important thing is to look good - therefore putting us all in competition and pandering to men. If feminism means women who strive to have the same pay as men, and to have the same oppurtunities - I'm all for it - but I think the focus should still be on understanding that there are differences between women and men - and that's no bad thing. |
