Getting rid of unwanted stuff: garage sales? Donations?

How do you get rid of the things you no longer need? Do you make a garage sale? Do you just donate them?

RE: Getting rid of unwanted stuff: garage sales? Donations?

I give some things to the local Op shops and other things I put through an email group called freecycle. It's basically a group of people who offer things to others for free who may have a use for it and the main aim is to keep it out of the rubbish bin if possible.
For example I gave an old cordless phone away when I got a new one. I got a new iron so I gave the old one away. I got a heap of genealogy books in return and a desk for the b/f

I havent lost my mind ... its backed up on disc .. somewhere

I donate them... or just throw them to the garbage. Some people on the streets might want them... Big Grin

For me garage sales are an unneccesary stress, so I just put them on Craigslist first, which is a site where you can give away or sell things for free. It is very popular. If that fails, then I donate the items to my local Goodwill, they have a drop bin, so there are no hassles.

I just give them away to some poor people in the area. There are some large families with financial problems and they are so happy to receive all these hand me downs.

Welllllllllllll, it depends what kind of stuff it is. If it's personal, I usually shred or destroy it. Otherwise, I either throw it away or donate it if I think someone can use it. I love going to garage sales but they are too much of a hassle to put together.

We don't have garage sales in Romania, but we do have the flea market and some people go there. Still I find this to be quite a hassle too, so I'd rather donate. It's easier and most of the time I am not interested in the money that much as to want some "return" on my things Wink

Ebay for me usually. Although I've started volunteering at Oxfam so I can see what good use donations are put to so I might start doing that a little more often now.
