Not really liking uni

Hey guys. I'm finding Uni really difficult to adjust to - I miss home, I feel very lonely and I don't want to go out and get blind drunk every night in unfamiliar clubs, which seems to be the only way to meet people. Does anyone have any advice?

Been there and it sucks! I even annoy myself for acting so 'desperate' to pour too many drinks at home over a man. You are going for self punishment, if a man didn't hurt you enough.

Why do you want more pain? That's were you are headed with the bar scene, too wasted and too desperate. No decent man will take you seriously.

It's ok to have a few drinks and call a friend. It's not ok to get wasted in a bar when too vonerable. You are far from sober and will take it too far!! Men do notice, so don't go there!

I may be new here, but please talk to us!

But the problem is that I don't *want* to get drunk, it just seems the only acceptable thing to do though. If you're not drunk, people won't talk to you. My floor hate me and I just feel so lonely.

Sabriel, I don't want to sound geeky but maybe you should join groups where you can meet other people with the same interest Big Grin

I had problem adjusting too when I was still in studying, you need to broaden your horizon to meet different people 8)

Argh! I just feel sooooo depressed most of the time, to the point where I want to do anything to get out of here. I can't even work out why I feel this way. I'm just totally miserable guys Sad Does it get better or should I just pack up and go home now?

RE: Not really liking uni

Heya guys cheers for the advice earlier. Just to update you all that this term's going a lot better. I see a counsellor once a week which really helps. I have a wicked group of friends who I can trust enough to feel safe drinking with, but who don't force me to do anything I don't want to do. I've also changed courses and this one feels a lot more "me" so I'm more motivated to do my work (says she who is writing on forums rather than doing her essays Tongue)

Just wanted to tell everyone that it gets better!

RE: Not really liking uni

So glad to hear about this Wink

I wasn't that into Uni either and it was an unpleasant change from highschool. It's important for you to resist any temptation of alcohol if you don't really feel like having a taste since it's something that peer pressure can cause and it's ugly afterwards.

If this is of any consolation: it will pass. There are also nice things about your age, you can focus on many things on a personal level and you'll be just fine.
