A weird belief about dead people and personal items
Well, since I am in such a gloomy type of topics (don't know why), let's carry on
![]() 3 years ago when my grandfather died I experienced for the first time a death in the family. He was a father too me, so I was quite shocked. Since he was the one to have supported me a lot in my Karate practice I thought I should give him my green belt (just got it few months ago). That was my current rank back then. I wanted to give him my green belt (put it into his coffin) and wear the previous rank (orange) till I would get my blue belt. I knew my sensei would eventually understand and this was for me a way to "give" him my current rank and dedicate my hard work to his memory. Still, my grandmother and other older women were quite distressed about this since they said it would make him "call me there". There's a weird belief that if you're giving a dean person one of your personal items, you'd soon die too since he/she would "call" you into the other world. Fact is I had to obey them and couldn't put my belt there. But I did put a dedication on my main site (dojo.ro) and it will stay there for as long as I live. What do you think about this belief? Did you hear about it too? |

When my grandmother died a few years ago, I gave her a half made scarf that I had started and that was placed in her coffin. It was my farewell present to her. I think we go when our time is up, so it should be fine to place treasured belongings in the coffin of your loved ones.

i don't believe in this... my gran'ma and mum always told me to put money in someone's coffin, so that he/she can pay the entrance at heaven's door...but i think that's just a stupid tradition...sure,..i am not a cheapskate, i put money in there to please them, but i don't believe in that.
if i will be in this kind of a situation, burrying someone i love, i would put in the coffin something very meaningfull (like ramona wanted to) but only because i wouldn't want to keep it myself...and i would like the dead person to have it, but i know it doesn't do any good, it would just make me feel that that thing is safer in there, and with the person i cared about... so sad... The good, the bad and.. the blog |

RE: A weird belief about dead people and personal items
You know I kinda regret not putting the belt there, but my grandma and all the other older women were scared to death of what might happen. Sometimes superstition is not the worst, but the huge mouth people who defend it can have

RE: A weird belief about dead people and personal items
I was really close to my grandfather too so when he died I was crying the whole time but the sad part is when there's a family gathering and he's not there.
Superstitions are beliefs that are passed around in different generations and the problem begins when things are added or removed from the original beliefs for that superstition. If it won't harm me, I try to just follow those superstitions imposed to me by the elders. My Oz Free Ad Store and Classifieds Blog

ramona Wrote:Well, since I am in such a gloomy type of topics (don't know why), let's carry on I have never heard of this belief before. I have always believed that once a person dies, they go to God and only their body is buried. The person or life force is no longer present. Hence, leaving any items in the coffin in my belief would not make any difference one way or another. My family believe and want all their belongings to be given to either living family members or charity, where it can be of help to others after their own death. GLAMA GIRLY |
